Rospotrebnadzor, the notorious Russian state consumer watchdog, has struck again — this time banning Ukrainian salt on Monday after declaring it unfit for Russian consumption.
As fighting rages on between government forces and pro-Russia separatists in eastern Ukraine, Kiev has found itself entrenched in an ongoing economic battle with Moscow.
But Ukraine’s state salt company Artyomsol, which said it learnt of the news from the media, claims it has not received any complaints from other clients.
Artyomsol’s mines are located in an area of the county’s eastern Donetsk region still under government control, which separatists are fighting to take over.
After living under the threat of bombardments for numerous months, many who live in Soledar, the town where Artyomsol’s operations are based, now fear for the company’s future as it risks losing its number one export market.
