Flanders provides aid to Ukraine

The Government of Flanders, the region of Belgium, granted 82,500 euros for protecting human rights and democracy in Ukraine.

The Government of Flanders reported the news to Ukrinform's own correspondent in Brussels.

"In response to the ongoing security crisis in Ukraine, the Council of Europe has developed an Immediate Measures Package on human rights, constitutional reform, elections, capacity building and support to civil society. Minister-president Geert Bourgeois decided to support the functioning of the International Advisory Panel [within the framework of the Council of Europe] with a grant of 82,500 euros and would thus like to contribute to the de-escalation of this worrying conflict on the borders of Europe," the statement reads.

The Government of Flanders is said to advocate a diplomatic solution and to support the EU policy to further liberalize trade with Ukraine and to simultaneously put pressure on Russia through sanctions.
