U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden has discussed the latest situation in Ukraine during the separate telephone conversations with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk on Friday.
This was officially stated by the press service of the White House, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"The Vice President agreed with both leaders that Russia cannot continue to hide behind the false claim that these latest military operations are solely the work of local separatists," reads the statement.
Herewith, Biden acknowledged the current actions of Russia to be "a blatant violation of all three Minsk agreements as well as Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Biden discussed with the Ukrainian leadership "options for effective monitoring of a cease-fire and withdrawal of heavy weapons, as called for in the Minsk Implementation Plan, particularly given the Russia-backed separatists' denial of access to the OSCE's Special Monitoring Mission."
