The European Commission believes that the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission is capable of carrying out its tasks in eastern Ukraine within the Minsk agreements and urges not to speculate on deployment of the peacekeeping mission.
European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn has said this at a briefing on the results of his visit to Ukraine on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports from Brussels.
"President Poroshenko made suggestions, offered some initiatives. However, we believe we should focus on a specific implementation of the Minsk agreements and not speculate on other opportunities," the commissioner said, answering the question, whether he and President Poroshenko discussed possible deploying of peacekeeping mission in eastern Ukraine.
Hahn expressed confidence that the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission is capable and should carry out its tasks in eastern Ukraine.
He also expressed the opinion that the situation in the region had improved in the past hours.
