The Russian Federation should make its choice for the settlement of the conflict in Donbas and demonstrate it not only in words, but in deeds.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said this after a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"Russia should make choices that would pave the way to peace through its actions, not words. It should take steps to fulfill the Minsk agreements," Kerry said.
According to him, Russia should immediately stop military support of fighters and sit down at the negotiating table, it should also withdraw heavy weapons and equipment, as well as troops and release Ukrainian hostages.
"President Poroshenko said during our conversation that he continues to back the law regarding the special status of Donbas, providing more economic, municipal and political rights to it. He also took a commitment to implement constitutional reforms and hold new free and fair elections in Donbas. If all these measures are put into action, it can be expected that all the terms of the Minsk Agreements will be implemented," Kerry said.
He noted that the U.S. president is ready to assist all parties to the conflict to achieve peace in Ukraine.
