France follows Germany in refusing to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine

France along with Germany refused to send weapons to Ukraine.

French Minister of Defence Jean-Yves Le Drian told journalists at a press conference on Wednesday, the Ukrinform own correspondent in France reported.

“France does not intend to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine now. We believe it is necessary to find a political solution to the crisis, " the minister said at a joint press conference with his Canadian counterpart Rob Nicholson.

According to him, the position of Russia who is providing military support to separatists in eastern Ukraine is unacceptable to us.

"We firmly declare it and prolong sanctions because of that fact", Le Drian said, adding that "at the same time, it is necessary to put a stop to the conflict that continues to escalate."

As a reminder, the official position of Germany remains steadfast: military means will not resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine. This was said by Chancellor Angela Merkel in Budapest, Hungary on Monday and repeated the following day in Berlin: Germany will not back Ukraine with weapon supplies.
