MPs vote down sanctions against offending broadcasters

Ukrainian MPs have failed to pass the bill, which allows the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine to impose penalties on licensees for violation of legislation on radio and television broadcasting.

As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, the bill has been supported by 169 MPs.

The purpose of the bill is strengthening sanctions against the licensees for violation of legislation on radio and television broadcasting, determination of the order of the trial to terminate broadcasting license, determination of procedure of temporary prohibition of broadcasting and / or rebroadcasting of television and radio programs in Ukraine.

Verkhovna Rada speaker Volodymyr Hroisman has instructed the relevant parliament's committee to work on a new bill.
