Ukrainian MPs have passed the law, which improves the organization and functioning of the National Guard of Ukraine. In particular, it is envisaged that the commander of the National Guard shall be appointed and dismissed by the President on the recommendation of the interior minister.
269 MP have voted for the decision, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The law also stipulates that size of the National Guard of Ukraine shall not exceed 60 thousand people, including at least 52 thousand servicemen. If necessary, the National Guard numerical force may be increased by the relevant law.
In general, the law introduces changes to the structure of the National Guard, improving the rules on the use of firearms, appointment and dismissal of the high command, conscription of reservists to perform functions of military formation.
The document defines the procedure for regulating and implementing functions for the protection of nuclear facilities, nuclear materials, radioactive waste and important state facilities and special cargoes.
